The Healing Use of Drones

Meditation on a drone: it’s a simple concept and relatively easy to attempt.  Find a drone sound in the room you are in.  (ie: washing machine, dryer, heater, fan, dishwaser, etc).

Listen to it as neutral sound.  Affirm that the sound is not a good or bad thing.  It’s simply sound.

The practice is enhanced when you’re already breathing very evenly and gently.  This helps your nervous system to be inclined toward neutrality as well.

Having hypersensitive hearing has been a challenge for me.  It has served me well in music and art, but in daily life the smallest noises can be the most excruciating.  This meditation opens a deep exploration of neutrality in perception.  It points toward a way of the transcendent middle where philosophers and meditators are able to support fair mediation between opposite sides of an issue.

It opens up the possibility for new thought surrounding an issue.  A neutral-minded person does not align to the existing thought surrounding an issue as truth, but suspends/lifts their thought to allow room for something new.  Just suspending our tendency to assign judgement to different sides of an issue is expansion.  Pausing in our habits of good and bad, we can then see when we are habitually claiming an opinion that may have been planted in the first place.

We are so suggestible that we do not originate many of the opinions we hold.  They were and are assigned constantly.  We may think we are choosing what to listen to, but we are still being fed opinions through that choice.

If we exercise the mind to think originally, without bringing forward past concepts or forwarding future ones, new thought is inevitable.  So, in conclusion, listen to the washing machine work and become the leading edge of thought.
